Approaching the End Of Laying Season

We are now up to 30 Loggerhead nests on Holden Beach this year (one more than last year). The last nest was found on August 6. That’s late in the season for a momma. If we go two weeks after that date (August 20) we’ll consider the nesting season officially over for the year.
So far this year we only have Loggerheads (no Green or Leatherback turtles like last year). But we’re only about half way through hatchings. So far we’ve had 15 nests “boil” with at least 1281 hatchlings going into the ocean. We’ve moved over 3000 eggs this year!
We have 3 more Turtle Talk programs scheduled for tonight and the next 2 Wednesdays at 7 p.m. Get there early if you want a seat. We’ve had standing room only for the last month. Turtle Talk has been very popular with visitors and locals alike. Now that there is lots of hatching activity on the beach there is a lot of interest.
