Record Tied

A momma turtle laid nest # 72 this morning. And then we had a surprise nest hatch that was discovered by some vacationers. These two nests brings our total up to 73 nests. This matches our all-time record set in 1998 for the number of turtle nests found on Holden Beach.

We have 25 nests hatch so far and more are expected every day. Photos of closing nest #19 during a high tide. Ken shows an infertile egg to the watching crowd. Unfortunately no live hatchlings were found.

We'll be waiting for turtles until late October. The due date on the nest today will be October 23.
