Nest #69 closes tonight

posted: October 20, 2013, 3:43 PM

Turtle Patrol members watched nest #69 for 17 nights before seeing any "action". It boiled last Thursday with 54 babies. Members and vacationers saw 6 more babies last night....but we know...because the morning rider saw little "flipper prints" headed to the ocean on Friday morning...that means more babies have hatched. The photos are of two babies making their way from the nest to the ocean at about 5 p.m. last night. This time of year the turtles take a little longer to hatch and we can expect to find them anytime of the day or night. This nest will be dug out and "closed" tonight...leaving just 3 active nests on the beach.
