End of Season Report

Our Coordinator Skip Hager reported to the turtle patrol members: "Ultimately we ended up with 73 nests, which tied our previous best year of 1998. In North Carolina we had a grand total of 1302 nests, with 1275 being Loggerheads, a new record for both. That equates to 134,646 eggs laid and 96298 hatched. Our part of that was 7754 laid and 7158 released, about a 92% success rate. For 1998 our numbers were 9102 laid and 7729 hatchlings, an 84% rate. While not as many in numbers this year as then, the rate is much improved. That I will attribute to your hard work. So everyone pat yourself on the back for a job well done."
