Memorial Day update

Memorial Day signals the start of the summer season on Holden Beach and we already have 7 turtle nests and 8 false crawls. A false crawl is when the mother turtle comes ashore but doesn't lay her eggs. Reasons for false crawls inlcude the mother turtle being startled by people or lights during the nesting process, the mother running into furniture, umbrellas or cabanas left on the beach overnight or perahps she just doesn't like the location. How can we help the mother turtles during the nesting season? Remove all furniture and equipment from the beach at the end of the day, turn off porch lights and fill in all holes on the beach. Thank you!
