What happened to 47?

Earlier this week we reported that nest #46 was the last one on the beach. The question came up....what happened to #47...recorded as the last nest laid on Holden Beach this year? The momma turtle laid that an unknown number of eggs on August 7. This was the last sign of a mother turtle and new nest this year. Unfortunately this nest along with four other (39, 40, 42 and 44) were overwashed by high tides and storm surges from three hurricanes and did not survive.

The one remaining nest (#46) has 101 eggs and as of early this morning shows no sign of hatching.

Good news from earlier this week...nest #45 was very successful with 82 of it's 85 eggs hatching!
