TSUNAMI TUESDAY

posted: June 18, 2019, 4:05 PM

It's Tuesday and once again the turtles didn't disappoint! For the 5th week in a row we've had over 5 turtle crawls or nests on the beach! Today the morning rider had five nests-- 48, 49, 50, 51 and 52. Three of these nests were covered and left where the mother turtle laid them. The 119 eggs in nest #49 were moved as were the 158 eggs in nest #50 which was moved further back on the beach. There were also four false crawls...the momma turtles were busy last night.

A quick reminder....PLEASE take your personal belongings from the beach each night. This includes all gazebos (poles, too) and volley ball nets. These items can entrap a mother turtle, they can also frighten her or impede her crawl onto the beach,

We have a suggestion....if you're building a sand castle or digging a hole...please do it below the high tide line. Then during the next high tide, mother nature will help fill it in or tear it down. These photos were courtesy of one of the Beach Patrol members showing great examples of this.
