It’s officially sea turtle season on Holden Beach!

The mommas are here!

The first turtle nest was laid on our beach last night! Our volunteer morning rider found a mother turtle “crawl” and a small team of Holden Beach Turtle Patrol members found the eggs!

Last year the first nest was laid on May 9 which was the earliest ever recorded. It will take 55-60 days for these eggs to incubate---we anticipate the first baby turtles on the beach in early July.

Please remember to turn off all beach facing lights each evening. Also please do not leave equipment on the beach overnight, these could entrap the mothers. Please fill in any holes that you may dig on the beach during the day, a mother turtle could fall into these holes and get stranded.
