Celebrate National Turtle Day

World Turtle Day is observed every year on May 23rd with the purpose of increasing attention and knowledge about turtles and tortoises. It was founded in 1990 by the American Tortoise Rescue (ATR). The ATR's mission is to educate people about things they can do to protect the habitats of turtles and tortoises.

Holden Beach is a Turtle Sanctuary. The mission of Holden Beach Turtle Patrol is, "To protect and preserve the sea turtle population of Holden Beach through conservation and education". **This conservation work for protected sea turtles on Holden Beach is authorized by the NC Wildlife Resources Commission (ES Permit 22ST11).**
