More than last year

As of Tuesday July 5, there are 41 turtle nests on Holden Beach. This is higher than we had last year at this time (see News from 6/27/21---we had 28 nests). There are potentially 6 to 8 more weeks for nesting mothers!

These photos were taken of nests that were found Saturday morning July 2. Nests #36 and #37. Nest #36 was left where the mother laid it but #37 was 141 eggs were moved back behind the high tide line.

Reminder: This year’s first Children’s Turtle Time and Turtle Talk were held last week. Children’s Turtle Time will continue each Wednesday at 4 p.m. through August 3. All children ages 3,4,5 and 6 are welcome to attend to learn more about the sea turtles that nest on our beach and to learn what they can to do help them. Turtle Talk will continue on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. through August 17. Both events are free of charge and are being held at the Holden Beach Chapel this year.

The Holden Beach Turtle Patrol’s conservation work for protected sea turtles on Holden Beach is authorized by the NC Wildlife Resources Commission (ES Permit 22ST11).
