2022 Turtle Season Over

The Sea Turtle season on Holden Beach was declared officially over Wednesday evening when the final nest was closed out---just in time to beat the threat of hurricane Ian. When the nest closed the team found 113 eggshells and 18 unhatched eggs.

The total number of known turtle eggs on the beach this year was 7255 with 5968 hatchlings into the water. This is an 82% hatch rate....which we consider fairly good considering our problems with tides and a pesky fox all season.
