August 24th Update

We’re anxiously and cautiously waiting to see what happens with Hurricane Irene. Nest # 20 “boiled” last night (August 23) so it will be “closed out” before the hurricane gets here.

We’ve “closed out” 20 nests so far this year with approximately 1968 baby turtles into the water.

Sadly we’ve had a couple of nests this year with infertile eggs. That really lowers our “hatch” rate. Right now it’s 87% (# of eggs that hatch).

We’ve got 9 nests to go!
