Season finally over.

This record "turtle season" on Holden Beach ended on a sad note last Monday evening (December 2) when the final nest of the year was closed. This nest had been "watched" by our Assistant Coordinators since early October. Unfortunately there were no live babies found. The nest had 117 eggs total. Of the 73 nests on our beach this year it was the only one that had no babies emerge. These nests that are later in the season are frequently at risk. This could be due to the colder weather or perhaps this was the last of several nests this mother laid this year and the eggs weren't fertile. It is very disappointing after such a great season.
