Nest #19

It's been a slow year for our turtle patrol....especially after last year's record 73 nests. But it isn't too late for a few more mother's to lay eggs. Nest #19 was found yesterday and members moved 34 eggs. That small number of eggs is typical for a late season nest. We have closed 4 nests which leaves us with 15 active nests. Nest 4 boiled last Friday and will be closed out tomorrow. That was day 62 for this nest. Looking at the nest database for the state the average incubation time is 60.1 days. It seems the rain we've had over the past week has slowed the hatching down.
