Red Lights

It takes everyone working together to keep Holden Beach a safe place for our sea turtles . Kudos to the folks from Winding River Plantation! They have installed red turtle friendly lights on their beach house. Sea turtles can get misdirected when buildings along the ocean have bright white lights. The turtles head to the lights and into the dunes and sometimes onto the street instead of into the ocean. Amber lights can also be used on homes and decks that are safe for the turtles. If you don’t have special lights, please remember to keep spotlights, deck lights and car port lights turned off and curtains and blinds drawn if inside lights are bright at night. Thank you again the Winding River community for being proactive and reducing the white light!
