Ahead of last year

As of June 2, we have had 13 sea turtle nests on Holden Beach. On June 6 last year we had just 10 nests. Does this mean we'll have more than the 75 (our total last year) nests that we had last year.....who knows.

The last few days, we've had just one nest a day...but that's OK... a female turtle will return every 2 weeks or so to lay another nest of eggs! She may lay between 4-7 nests in one season (she may not come to our beach each time.) Once the water temperatures start to cool again in August, the females move on in search of food and a decent place to reside until it is time to nest again.

Our Turtle Talk programs begin on June 19 and Children's Turtle Time begins on June 26. Both are at the Holden Beach Chapel.

Hope to see you on the beach or at one of our educational events.
