Season is well underway

July 1 and our turtle season is well underway. We currently have 39 nests on the beach (slightly ahead of where we were last year on this date). Evening teams will begin to "watch" the first nests starting next weekend and expect to see our first hatchlings within the next few weeks. We begin these watches 50 days after the nests were laid and typically incubation takes 50-60 days...some of these early nests usually take a little longer because they were laid when the weather was colder...but you never know.... the weather has been very hot this year so this could speed things up. Look for turtle patrol members on the beach in evenings.

Also weekly Turtle Talk and Children's Turtle Time are happening each week (yes, we'll be there on July 3). Turtle Talk is at 7 p.m. for the whole family and Children's Turtle Time at 4 p.m. for 3,4-,5- and 6-year-olds. Both programs are free of charge and at the Holden Beach Chapel.

We hope you noticed...even though we don't write a "news" article each day on this website, we do have a dedicated member that keeps the statistics up-to-date everyday...so you always know what's happening on the beach.
